DEFENCE TO ANNOUNCE NEW TRADE SCHOLARSHIPS


What:

Launch of the Defence Technical Scholarships by the Minister

for Defence Science and Personnel, the Hon Warren Snowdon MP.


Where:

Tully State High School, Tully, Queensland.


When:

9:30am Wednesday, 29 October 2008.


Background:

Australia is experiencing a critical skilled technical tradespeople shortage

across all areas of industry.


The Government has recognised this shortage and is seeking resolution

through initiatives within Government, industry and educational bodies to

increase the numbers of skilled tradespeople through training.


Defence will now offer up to 1500 Defence Technical Scholarships to selected

Year 11 and 12 students from 2009.
