Commission of Inquiry commences into the death of Private Ben Pape
What:
Public hearings will commence for the Commission of Inquiry (COI) into any
Defence-related circumstances surrounding the death of Private Ben Pape.
When:
Tuesday 9 March 2010. The media are asked to assemble at the Guard House by no
later than 9 AM.
Where:
RAAF Base Townsville, Ingram Rd, Townsville.
Background:
The COI will inquire into the circumstances surrounding the death of Private Ben Pape who died
at Lavarack Barracks on 5 September, 2008. Mr David McCann has been appointed as the
Commission of Inquiry President (COI President). The COI will conduct its hearings of oral
witnesses in public, except for those elements that would involve the disclosure of classified
information or otherwise in accordance with directions issued by the COI President.
Media interested in attending the Commission of Inquiry should be at the Guard House at the
front of RAAF Base Townsville, no later than 9am. Media are encouraged to obtain information
