Commandos mourn loss of their brothers

Commanding Officer of the 2nd Commando (2Cdo Regt) has held a memorial service

at Tobruk Lines at Holsworthy Barracks to observe the death of their comrades, killed

in Afghanistan last week.

Private Timothy Aplin, Private Benjamin Chuck and Private Scott Palmer were killed

as a result of a helicopter crash that injured seven other commandos.

2 Cdo Regt has received numerous letters of condolence stating that the unit was

forging a reputation of tenacity and success on operations.  However, that reputation

comes neither easily nor without cost.

2 Cdo Regt Commanding Officer said the memorial service was a time for the

Regiment to remember the men who paid the ultimate sacrifice during their service to

the country.

“History’s page will bear witness to the sacrifices these Commandos paid to protect

the people of Afghanistan.

“We honour their sacrifice through our own determination and resolve to meet future

challenges.”

The service was attended by the men and women of 2 Cdo Regt, families of the killed

in action, representatives from other Special Operations Command Units – Special

Operations Headquarters, Incident Response Regiment and Special Operations

Logistics Squadron and the broader Australian Defence Force who had worked with

these men.
