COMBET INSPECTS SIMPSON BARRACKS
Greg Combet, Minister for Defence Personnel, Materiel and Science, today
inspected facilities at Simpson Barracks, Watsonia.
Mr Combet received briefings on the work conducted by the Defence
Command Support Training Centre, the Defence Force School of Signals, and
the Australian Armys 138th Signals Squadron.
Mr Combet said that work being conducted at the Defence Command Support
Training Centre was helping ensure the ADF was well equipped to deal with
modern day conflicts.
The Defence Command Support Training Centre (DCSTC) was raised in
January 2009. Its role is to provide individual training, trade management and
training development in areas of command support such as the fields of
signals, intelligence, service policing, music and languages, Mr Combet said.
The DCSTC is also unique in that it provides joint and common individual
training to members of all three services - the Army, the Royal Australian Air
Force and the Royal Australian Navy.
Mr Combet said that the Defence Force School of Signals (DFSS) was
equipping Signalers in the ADF with the skills they needed to fulfill their roles.
The DFSS provides Communications Information Systems and Electronic
Warfare training to ADF members. These are critical capabilities and skills
that are needed for our overseas deployments.
Mr Combet also paid tribute to the work of 138 Signal Squadron.
The 138 Signal Squadron's role is to interface communications services from
deployed locations into the Defence Communications Network. The squadron
itself operates 24 hours a day, every day of the year and provides critical
support to our operational theatres.
