CHIEF OF NAVY THANKS HIS PEOPLE AFTER A

BUSY YEAR

The Chief of Australia’s Navy, Vice Admiral Russ Crane, has embarked on a patrol of

Australia’s northern coastline to thank Navy personnel taking part in Operation

Resolute.

Seven Armidale Class Patrol boats are taking part in border protection activities.

Their work has helped stop 54 suspected irregular entry vessels attempting to

penetrate Australia’s border security in the past 12 months.

“These visits are vital for me.  It is critical for me and my staff to stay tuned in to the

needs of our people,” Vice Admiral Crane said.

Vice Admiral Crane will spend the next three days visiting several of the patrol boats

currently on station off Australia’s far north. It will give the crews of HMA Ships

Maitland, Wollongong, Larrakia and Maryborough the opportunity to speak with

their Chief and discuss the past year.

“Each boarding brings risks and challenges,” Vice Admiral Crane said.

“Australians can be very proud and confident in the professionalism, training and

conduct of their Navy in its border protection role.”

Navy and other ADF and Customs assets will remain on duty during the Christmas

New Year period to make sure Australia’s northern approaches continue to be

monitored and protected.

“As Australians enjoy the holiday season, I would ask them to remember those ADF

members who will be hard at work keeping our country safe,” Vice Admiral Crane

said.
