Australian Strategic Policy Institute (ASPI) Funding Agreement
Defence today finalised an agreement with the Australian Strategic Policy Institute
(ASPI) to secure its funding over the long term.
Under the agreement, Defence will provide ASPI with a grant of $3.3 million
per year, indexed annually at the same rate applied to the Defence budget for the
period 1 July 2010 to 30 June 2014, with an option to extend for up to four years.
ASPI was established in 2001, and is an independent policy institute focused on
Australia’s defence and strategic policy. It exists to provide alternative sources of
input to Government decision-making processes on major strategic and defence policy
issues; foster public debate and understanding of strategic and defence issues; and
contribute to the development of professional strategic policy expertise in Australia.
