AUSTRALIAN DEFENCE FORCE ACADEMY 

GRADUATION PARADE 


WHAT:     Australian Defence Force Academy (ADFA) Graduation Parade.  


WHERE:  ADFA, Northcott Drive, Campbell ACT.  


WHEN:     9:30 am on Thursday, 10 December 2009. 


WHO:       The Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia, Her

Excellency Ms Quentin Bryce AC; Minister for Defence, Senator the Hon. John

Faulkner; Shadow Minister for Defence, Senator the Hon. David Johnston;

Parliamentary Secretary for Defence Support, the Hon. Dr Mike Kelly AM MP; and

Chief of Defence Force, Air Chief Marshal Angus Houston AC AFC, will be in

attendance.    


Background: 

The 2009 Graduation Parade will see approximately 256 Midshipmen and Officer

Cadets march with over 600 of their colleagues, to mark the completion of three years

of military and leadership training and undergraduate studies. 


During the ceremony, the Governor-General, Chief of Defence Force and Chiefs of

Navy, Army and Air Force will present five major military prizes. These include the

Commander in Chief Medal, Chief of Defence Force Sword, Chief of Navy Prize,

Chief of Army Prize and Chief of Air Force Prize. The awards are presented to

graduates who have displayed outstanding academic and military excellence during

their time at the Academy. 


A Royal Australian Air Force F-111, from Number 6 Squadron at RAFF Base

Amberley, will conduct a flypast over ADFA to honour the Graduating Class of 2009

and to celebrate the achievements of the first and second year squadrons.
