AUDIO OF MINISTER IN AFGHANISTAN

Audio of the Minister for Defence, the Hon. Joel Fitzgibbon, meeting the four

wounded Special Operations Task Group (SOTG) soldiers in Afghanistan is

now available on the Defence website.

The Minister flew to Tarin Kowt after receiving news of the death of Lance

Corporal Jason Marks, a 4 RAR Commando who was tragically killed on 27

April 2008 in fighting with Taliban extremists in Uruzgan Province,

approximately 25km southeast of Tarin Kowt.

Four other soldiers were also wounded in the battle, and the Minister visited

them in the Dutch operated Coalition Hospital where they are being treated.

The SOTG operates in support of International Security Assistance Force

security operations and provides security and force protection for the

Reconstruction Task Force in Uruzgan Province. It consists of Commandos,

members of the Special Air Service Regiment and support personnel.
