Army redeploys after successful training exercise

After a highly successful Exercise Hamel held west of Townsville, in North

Queensland, Army transports are again moving freight, equipment and personnel back

to their home locations.

Motorists are thanked in advance for their patience as a variety of equipment is moved

utilising a wide range of Defence vehicles including semi-trailers and Army Unimog

trucks on the major road networks in Queensland and the Northern Territory.

As part of Defence's Road Space Management Plan convoys set out thirty minuites

apart, and with fifteen minute gaps between individual groups.

Army vehicles also travel with 100 metres separation, and expect to maintain an

average speed of 80 km/h.

Exercise Hamel is the most complex training activity undertaken by the Australian

Army, and is designed to test the fundamental warfighting skills of the Townsville-

based 3rd Brigade.
