ANA soldier killed in the Chora Valley

An Afghan National Army soldier has been killed in action as a result of a gunshot

wound when the 1st Mentoring Task Force (MTF-1) and Afghan National Army

partnered patrol came under small arms fire on Wednesday

23 June.

The incident occurred in the Chora Valley region to the north of Tarin Kowt,

Southern Afghanistan.

No Australian soldiers were killed or wounded.

Commanding Officer of MTF-1, Lieutenant Colonel Mark Jennings said that he was

saddened by the loss of the Afghan soldier.

“We feel every loss and we empathise with our Afghan partners especially given the

losses we have also suffered in recent weeks,” LTCOL Jennings said.

“The Afghan National Army has been doing a great job in their fight against the

insurgents making Uruzgan more secure one step at a time.”
