AFGHAN CIVILIAN INJURED IN VEHICLE ACCIDENT


The ADF advises that an Afghan civilian suffered serious injuries as a result of a

vehicle accident with an ADF Bushmaster Protected Mobility Vehicle in Southern

Afghanistan on Saturday, 17 October 2009.

The 2nd Mentoring and Reconstruction Task Force (MRTF – 2) Bushmaster Protected

Mobility Vehicle (PMV) was returning to a Forward Operating Base when a Local

National was seriously injured after being accidentally struck by the Bushmaster.

The Afghan civilian received immediate first aid at the scene from an Australian

military doctor prior to being aero-medically evacuated to a Coalition Medical

Facility in Tarin Kowt. The injuries sustained are considered to be serious but not life

threatening.

No Australians or Afghan National Army personnel were injured as a result of this

incident.

This incident is under investigation, there is no further information available at this

time.
