AUSTRALIAN DEFENCE FORCE ACADEMY AND THE
UNIVERSITY OF NEW SOUTH WALES CONTINUE
PARTNERSHIP
Minister for Defence, Senator John Faulkner, today congratulated the
Australian Defence Force Academy (ADFA) and the University of New South
Wales (UNSW) on extending the current Agreement for the provision of
academic services at ADFA.
Senator Faulkner said UNSW plays a vital role in educating Defence
personnel, by providing undergraduate degrees for Midshipmen and Officer
Cadets at ADFA, Defence sponsored postgraduate studies and by
contributing to Defence and industry research.
Defence has a long relationship with UNSW which dates back to 1967 and
for ADFA since 1981, so I am very pleased to see the partnership continue,
Senator Faulkner said.
The Government is committed to helping Defence maintain a capable and
robust workforce that is able to meet its strategic objectives both now and in
the future.
ADFA is focused on developing the best future leaders for the ADF and the
work of UNSW staff at ADFA is a key element of that task. The extension of
the Agreement until 2023 ensures Defence personnel; both military and
civilian, have access to high-quality academic services that will enhance their
knowledge and understanding in addition to aiding their careers.
There are several initiatives which have come out of the Agreement which
include additional performance and reporting tools and increased enrolments.
I expect that the academic programs of UNSW at ADFA will continue to
evolve to meet Defence needs, just as they have done so successfully in the
past.
The academic results achieved by UNSW@ADFA have been consistently
high, particularly at the undergraduate level, and this reflects great credit on
all involved in the Academy, Senator Faulkner said.
The new Agreement will commence on 1 January 2010.
