ADF NURSES CONFERENCE FOCUSES ON DEVELOPMENT

The Minister for Defence Science and Personnel, the Hon. Warren Snowdon

MP, today thanked Australian Defence Force nursing officers for their ongoing

commitment to improving military health.

Around 130 delegates met in Canberra this week to attend the ADF Nurses

Conference, an event held every two years.

Mr Snowdon said theme of this year’s conference was “growth through

diversity – the journey continues” with an emphasis on developing ADF

nursing roles.

“Our nurses in the ADF provide critical health support on operations as well as

here in Australia,” Mr Snowdon said.

“The ADF Nurses Conference serves not only to ensure they are up to date

with key health developments in wider health organisations in Australia and

overseas, but also allows them to share their own experiences and research

with each other and with other militaries.”

Presentations were made by a number of eminent civilian nursing leaders.

The Commonwealth Chief Nurse and State Chief Nurses took part in the

conference.  Representatives from the College of Nursing and New Zealand

Defence Force Nursing also attended.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank the civilian delegates for their

support and input into this very important forum,” Mr Snowdon said.

“This Government is committed to ensuring that the very best health support

is available for ADF personnel and the ex-service community, and it is through

the professional development of our health personnel that we will maintain a

fit and healthy Defence force before, during and after deployment.”
