MEDIA ALERT

CYBERCRIME BLACKMARKET AT PARLIAMENT HOUSE

On Monday, 15 November, a giant mobile cybercrime exhibit called Black Market (BLK MKT)

will be launched outside Parliament House in Canberra. This education initiative will tour

Australia, giving consumers an opportunity to experience the inner workings of cybercrime,

including the Internet “black market” - the online trading and selling of consumers’ personal

information, details, IDs and more.  The goal of the exhibit is to help decrease the number of

Australian victims by exposing the different types of cybercrime and provide information

and tips on how to stay protected.

BLK MKT will be officially opened by the Minister for Broadband, Communications and the

Digital Economy, Senator Stephen Conroy. Also presenting will be the National Manager of

High Tech Crime Operations for the Australian Federal Police, Assistant Commissioner Neil

Gaughan and the Vice President and Managing Director, Pacific Region of Symantec, Craig

Scroggie.

Symantec’s internet security experts will be on hand to explain how internet “bad guys”

virtually break into people’s computers and/or online accounts to steal, sell and trade

identities - and make millions doing so.

You are invited to attend this special media preview.  Interview and photo opportunities will

be available.
